Power outage in Echuca

The lights went out at Woolworths, Echuca this afternoon.

More than 2000 customers have been impacted by a power outage in Echuca.

Powercor’s website says the cause is still being investigated but the fault location is on Ogilvie Ave.

The lights are expected to return at 5.30pm.

UPDATE 4.05pm:

About 2453 customers were impacted by the power outage in Echuca's CBD about 3.21pm.

A Powercor spokesperson said about 1000 customers have since had their power restored.

The cause, however, is still being investigated.

"We have crews on-site as we speak," the spokesperson said.

"We are returning the power back in sections as we deem it safe to do so."

UPDATE 4.25pm:

Powercor's website lists a tree on Goulburn Rd as the cause of the outage.
More than 300 customers remain without power.

Power outage causes inconvenience

TONGALA'S Julie Dullard went to find her Christmas ham on Wednesday afternoon when the Aldi Echuca store went black. 

Having to ditch two trolleys full of Christmas goodies, Mrs Dullard was stranded outside the store without her groceries. 

‘‘The word inconvenience doesn’t quite describe the scenario,’’ she said.

‘‘I had asked someone where I could find the hams and I was instructed that I had to leave everything including all my bags and exit the store.’’ 

‘‘The store was packed and a lot of people were forced to leave all their groceries behind.’’

Mrs Dullard was just one of many people who were affected by the power outage in Echuca CBD.

‘‘I know there was nothing anyone could have done, these things happen,’’ Mrs Dullard said. 

‘‘Everyone was back in the store loading up again Thursday morning.’’

‘‘Aldi did what they had to do and have been nothing but professional when we came back.’’
