It’s a case of digging up your old suitcases

SORT through all your cupboards and start pulling out those suitcases so you can take part in the inaugural twin towns suitcase rummage this Saturday.

The Echuca-Moama Uniting Church is this year combining its regular secondhand book sale and cake stall with the novel suitcase rummage and is inviting everyone to bring along a suitcase full of anything to sell.

Suitcases of any size are just $20, with all proceeds raised going to the mission and outreach projects of the church.

‘‘It is like a car boot sale — just without the cars or the boots,’’ fundraising group member Anne Peace said.

‘‘It is something new and we hope it will attract a lot of interest,’’ she said.

‘‘We have been sitting on this idea for almost three years and now that it is here we are excited to see how well it goes.

‘‘You just need to use your imagination to make the most of it.

‘‘Fill your suitcase with anything from plants, handcrafts, bric-a-brac and collectables to excess produce and art — everything is allowed.

‘‘The event will be held in the church grounds but if the weather is inclement we have the option of moving the sale into the church hall.

‘‘We really hope that this is something everyone will see as a bit of fun while raising money for the community and restoration of our historic building.’’

Bookings to be part of the day are essential and can be made by calling 5480 1342 or 0429 801 342.

The fundraising event will kick off at 9am at the Echuca-Moama Uniting Church, corner of Hare and Pakenham streets.
