TONGALA has caused a major upset in division one of the Campaspe Valley Bowls Division weekend pennant, taking down the more fancied City of Echuca side to reach the grand final.
In their preliminary final at Rochester, Tongala took two of the three rinks with the third rink drawn on their way to a 70-62 victory.
A proud Tongala club president Allan Davis said the team had well surpassed their season expectations.
‘‘We wanted to finish around fourth or fifth, anything higher than that was always going to be a bonus,’’ Davis said.
‘‘To make the grand final is a really good effort and fantastic for the club.’’
Davis said the weekend’s clash had been an absolute thriller to watch.
‘‘It was a brilliant game of bowls from both teams, it was a game of millimetres and ours were just a little bit shorter,’’ he said.
‘‘You’d have to go a long, long way to see a better game of bowls.’’
Tongala will enter as underdogs when they meet Moama in next Saturday’s grand final, but enter with confidence riding a six-match winning streak.
