Northern Victoria’s new women’s football league has confirmed the eight clubs to participate in its inaugural season.

NORTHERN Victoria’s new women’s football league has confirmed the eight clubs to participate in its inaugural season.

The Echuca Football Club will be among the entrants, along with Benalla Saints, Kyneton, North Bendigo, Bendigo Thunder, Kerang, Mooroopna and Shepparton.

The Goulburn Murray, Central Victorian and Central Murray commissions have formed a partnership for the running of the league.

AFL Goulburn Murray has appointed club administrator Sharon O’Dwyer as the league’s administrator, with her first task being to deliver the fixture for the season.

The first meeting of the league will take place next week with the fixture presented to the clubs for feedback.

AFL GM region manager Martin Gleeson congratulated the clubs on the way they had embraced women’s football.

‘‘We have had a great response to the new competition and it’s exciting that we will have an eight team league up and going in the first year,’’ he said.

MBCM Strata Specialists will sponsor the league for its first two seasons with a logo to be released this week.
