Chair Seema Abdullah said she was excited about the challenge of heading up the organisation.

CAMPASPE Shire councillor Leigh Wilson is one of four new board members on the Goulburn Valley Waste Resource Recovery Group (GVWRRG).

Earlier this week Energy, Environment and Climate Change Minister Lily D’Ambrosio announced Seema Abdullah, Leigh Wilson, David Lowe and Eric Lording would join four continuing members on the board.

The GVWRRG is responsible for undertaking waste and resource recovery infrastructure planning across the Campaspe, Shepparton, Strathbogie, Moira, Murrindindi and Mitchell local government areas.

Chair Seema Abdullah said she was excited about the challenge of heading up the organisation.

“It certainly is a very dynamic industry and the group has worked particularly hard since its establishment in 2014 to plan for the region’s future,’’ she said.

“With more than 1000 jobs engaged in waste and recycling in the region, I am looking forward to understanding further the job creation potential for the sector and how we can support councils and reprocessors,” she said.

The four new board members join Geoff Dobson, Andrea Richards, Anthony Lewis and Geoff Cobbledick and will oversee the delivery of a plan which will guide waste management and resource recovery infrastructure in the Goulburn Valley for the next 10 years.

Membership of the GVWRRG board has been based on required skill sets which include local government, financial management, contract management, risk management, environmental policy, waste management and materials efficiency.
