TWO thieves used a car they stole from Tongala to ram into a security guard’s vehicle during their getaway after a burglary in Kyabram early Monday.
The men first used a sledgehammer to break into the Kyabram Club in Alan St about 5.30am before ransacking the office and stealing an undisclosed amount of cash.
‘‘As they were leaving the premises they were disturbed by a security guard and rammed into his vehicle after a short chase,’’ Senior Constable Josh Coombs of Campaspe Criminal Investigation Unit said.
‘‘Fortunately the security guard was not injured in the attack but his car was significantly damaged.’’
The collision, which saw the offenders reverse their vehicle into the front of the security guard’s moving car, occurred in Everard Rd, not far from the scene of the robbery.
Police said that the wanted vehicle, which is described as a white early 1990s Holden Commodore sedan, was stolen from a house in Purdey St, Tongala, earlier that night.
Snr Constable Coombs said that he was now waiting on CCTV footage from the Kyabram club which possibly might help identify the offenders.
In the meantime, he said police were appealing to the public in both towns for help.
‘‘If anyone knows anything, or even thinks they saw anything, we would urge them to come forward,’’ he said.
