PEOPLE in Campaspe Shire are being encouraged to book in for library and information week from May 22-28 at one of the five libraries across the shire.

Anyone can participate in the many free activities on offer which include morning teas, book releases and children’s story time.

The theme for this year’s library and information week is “celebrate” and the Campaspe libraries are doing just that.

Library services manager Jenny Mustey said the week raised the profile of libraries and information services.

‘‘And to promote the value of reading and literacy in our community,’’ she said.

Held in the last week of May, activities at the Rochester, Rushworth, Tongala, Kyabram and Echuca libraries cater for the young and old. Rhyme time, story time and games days will captivate the children.

Adults don’t miss out with the inclusion of morning teas, book releases, tech time, Tai Chi and even a diabetes, heart disease and stroke prevention seminar.

‘‘Libraries play an important role in research and education and the week is a great opportunity to emphasise the significance of such services in our community, school, work and personal life,’’ Ms Mustey said.
