Echuca and District Netball Association hosts its annual tournament this Sunday. These are some of the girls across ten teams who will be out on the court.

ECHUCA and District Netball Association (EDNA) courts on High St will be a hive of activity this Sunday as the association gears up to host its annual tournament.

Teams from as far as Sunraysia and Sunbury will travel to Echuca-Moama as part of Netball Victoria’s association tournaments with 10 teams across 11-and-under through to 15-and-under made up of EDNA representatives.

EDNA has four 11-and-under teams and three teams in each of the 13-and-under and 15-and-under divisions competing for a place in the finals with a 17-and-under division also running.

EDNA has been competitive so far this season with six teams making the semi-finals and grand finals at Bendigo Strathdale and the 15-and-under navy team also made the semi-finals at Wangaratta and the grand final at Golden City Bendigo.

The convening of the tournament is shared between Betty McCoomb, Linda Dwyer and Beverley Monigatti, but could not go ahead without the parents who volunteer to assist throughout the day.

‘‘We have around 50 teams entered across all divisions which is down from last year,’’ McCoomb said.

‘‘This year our tournament falls on the same date as Shepparton’s so we were expecting less teams, but there will still be plenty of competition.’’

Play commences at 9am with finals likely to start around 2pm.

EDNA has also been chosen to host this year’s zone championships for the northern region, the second time in three years, with the winners going through to compete at the association finals at the State Netball Hockey Centre in Melbourne on June 25.

‘‘It’s a real privilege to host the zone championships,’’ McCoomb said.

‘‘EDNA is known for its well-run tournaments and is always on a lot of associations’ calendars.

‘‘I’m optimistic our girls should go well and hopefully a few teams will get through to the finals.’’
