The parish pump

St Mary's Parish Centre will host the Alpha program which kicks off on Tuesday.

EVER wanted answers to life’s big questions?

Echuca’s St Mary’s Parish kicks off its Alpha program tomorrow, which gives people the opportunity to come together and discuss those questions.

The parish’s Doug Black said Alpha was a global program here for people of any denomination.

‘‘Bear Grylls is the face of this year’s program and it is open to people who believe or don’t believe,’’ he said.

‘‘Essentially it is there for anyone who wishes to come and share a meal and watch a short film which are made to promote discussion.

‘‘No questions are too silly and there is no judgement.’’

The program runs for a few sessions but there is no requirement to attend all of them.

‘‘You can come to one or all,’’ Mr Black said. ‘‘But most people come to one and then keep coming back because of what they get out of it.

‘‘The sessions build a community and switch our focus from thinking about which model car or TV to buy to taking the time out to tackle the big life questions.

‘‘It isn’t a serious lecture but rather a group of people coming together and interacting together.’’

‘‘As the program is centred around sharing a meal it would be great if people could get in contact so we know how many to expect,’’ he said.

Tuesday’s session kicks of at 6.30pm at St Mary’s Parish Centre.
