CAMPASPE Shire Council has decided to close two of its road projects — the Mundarra Rd, Echuca and O’Dea Rd, Koyuga upgrades.

The Echuca project would have upgraded the road and kerb at the entrance way to the industrial estate adjacent 43 Mundarra Rd.

But Cr Neil Pankhurst said external funding could not be sourced.

‘‘As we’ve been unable to source external funding council is seeking to close this project rather than fund it internally,’’ he said at the meeting.

Council has met with the owners of the undeveloped properties but an agreement could not be reached on contributions to the planned work.

Council closed the O’Dea Rd, Koyuga upgrade — sections between McDonald Rd to Tehan Rd and Murphy Rd to the Murray Valley Hwy.

The project had been delayed to allow discussion with Goulburn Murray Water about the load limitations of their structures. Outcomes of the discussions revealed four GMW structures were rated at less than heavy mass vehicle limits so were not up to the task of carrying the upgraded road.

Cr Pankhurst said it was a shame as this was ‘‘a project that has been dear to my heart,’’ he said. Unfortunately ... assets on the road for which council is not responsible are not up to the task of carrying the road or surface we were going to provide.’’
