Full details in tomorrow's Riv.
A CAR fire that broke out in front of Murray River Gifts in the Port of Echuca this morning has been contained.
Two fire engines and police responded to the incident at 8.15am after a parked car went up in flames.
Fire fighters extinguished the fire at 9am after the flames reignited when they spread to the fuel tank.
No one was injured and High St traffic has been diverted between Leslie St and Warren St.
Fire fighters managed to contain the fire before it spread to a nearby vehicle and businesses, however the car has been destroyed.
Fourth Lieutenant David Stephens said the fire likely started in the car before impinging on the fuel tank.
"A normal car fire is usually extinguished fairly quickly," Lieutenant Stephens said.
"Once it spread to the fuel tank we had to control the spread of fuel and extinguish the fire which makes it a more technical operation."
Traffic is still being diverted at this stage until the car has been cleared.
An investigation is currently taking place.
