ECHUCA 208 Primary School’s Miller Davies and St Mary’s Primary’s Ryan Stobaus were the big winners at the recent Echuca Lions Club junior public speaking competition.

Held on June 18 at Echuca College, Miller took out the Grades 3-4 category and Ryan Grades 5-6.

The competition gathered schools from across Echuca and was judged by Tim Noar, Maree Harris and Marion Brotchie.

The Lions Club would like to congratulate the winners and all who participated in what is never an easy thing to do.

With two levels, Grades 3 and 4 students were required to give a prepared speech on a topic given to them, while Grades 5 and 6 were required to do the same but also answer impromptu questions.

All primary schools in Echuca participated in the competition, and school principals said they appreciated it because it was the only competition where students can speak at a public audience.

The competition was initiated by District 201 V6, which includes Echuca and Moama, and extends as far east as Corryong, and west as Kerang.

It has become so popular it is now a national competition.
