ECHUCA-MOAMA’S Dylan Jardine (pictured right) blitzed his field on Sunday to be the third male Under 15 runner to finish the 10km Run Melbourne.
He was up against 50 other runners in his category and went on to finish 144th overall out of around 6000 competitors in a time of 43.41.
A naturally good runner, Jardine took it all in his stride — even when, at 13 years old, most of his immediate competition was older.
It was his second time doing Run Melbourne after deciding 12 months ago he wanted to take on a 10km fun run.
His first was at Wangaratta before he entered the 2016 Run Melbourne with his family and finished fifth in his age category.
Most of his fitness comes from football as he currently plays in the under 14s at Moama Junior Football Club and is involved in the Greater Western Sydney Football Academy and V-squad.
More than 20,000 people participated in the event and raised more than $1.8 million for more than 400 charities.
His mother Deb said she had done Run Melbourne before and when she heard about Johnno’s Run the whole family decided to get on board.
‘‘It’s a great cause, why wouldn’t people want to get involved,’’ she said.
‘‘It’s our second time doing it as a family after we got involved last year.
‘‘The whole family is involved with different running groups and Echuca-Moama Triathlon Club and we like to keep active.
‘‘The kids have really started to enjoy doing fun runs and were proud of Dylan when he decided to take on the 10km.’’
Her husband Richard also completed the 10km, while her daughters Brodie, 11, and Sophie, 6, did the 6km with her.
