THE 19th annual Rochester Farm and Road Safety Expo is next week.
The event run by the Rotary Club of Rochester first came about when a need for farm safety was identified in 1999 and 19 years later the safety of the community is still paramount. Organiser Heather Watson said it is a hands-on day.
‘‘Nearly all of our exhibitors will have some sort of hands-on activity where you can see first hand how to do things safely,’’ she said.
‘‘Although we get a lot of primary school aged children we have made a real effort this year to make sure we have exhibitors who appeal to all age groups.
‘‘That means we hope the local farmers will come in for an hour or two and hopefully get something out of it.’’
The free event hopes to educate the wider community around safe handling of machinery, safe road rules, quad bikes, electrical safety, first aid and the list goes on.
There will also be a free sausage sizzle.
■The expo will be held at the Rochester Recreation Reserve on Tuesday, August 15 from 10am - 2.30pm.
