LOCKINGTON-BAMAWM United’s A grade netball was no match for league-leading Colbinabbin in Saturday’s Heathcote and District Netball League clash.
The Cats went in needing to end the Hoppers’ undefeated season to keep their own chances of making the finals in play, but couldn’t come up with enough to get the win, falling 40-66.
It was the second smashing they’d been handed by Colbinabbin this season, having lost 34-70 when the teams met in round eight.
The result virtually ended LBU’s season, its 7-8 win-loss record keeping it one game outside of the top five with just one game left to play in 2017.
Playing fifth-placed Leitchville-Gunbower next weekend, the Cats need to not only win, but to beat the Bombers by about 30 goals in order to make up enough percentage to pass them on the ladder. LG defeated the Cats 50-39 when the sides met in round eight, LBU needing a massive swing if it is to keep the season alive.
It would be the second straight year it has missed the finals, but this season has been an improvement on last year’s when it won just four games.
