ECHUCA Electric Motor Rewinds is one of the unsung heroes of the twin towns.

Not least because it maintains and services sewage pumps in Moama — if Echuca Electric Motor Rewinds is not on the ball all the time some people could pretty quickly be knee deep in God knows what.

The local business has been serving the Echuca-Moama region for many years but if you are looking for owner David De Vries and his team make sure you note down their new address — 24 Hovell St.

David moved Echuca Electric Motor Rewinds from its original Murray Valley Hwy site to create the ultimate one-stop Echuca-Moama shop and the doors have been open since late last month.

He said Echuca Electric Motor Rewinds is a specialist in the supply, repair, rewinding, servicing and maintenance of electric motors, pumps, generators, compressors and gearboxes.

The business had been running for 25 years before David took over in 2012.

“We bought it because it is such an established, rock-solid enterprise and it also gave us a family-business option when we moved here from Melbourne,’’ David said.

‘‘Rewinding is a very particular field which allows Echuca Electric Motor Rewinds to operate in a niche sector.

“We are one-of-a-kind in this region, as it’s very important to keep this equipment serviced as it is relied on by so many local businesses and people. The 24-hour service is often essential in ensuring we are able to help keep this sort of equipment running at all times.”

Working in tandem with the surrounding agricultural industry is another key area in which Echuca Electric Motor Rewinds operates.

‘‘It is especially important in regional areas where the equipment we service is used — having that back-up here makes such a difference for our clients.’’

In fact business has been going so well, and the client base spreading so wide David has expanded the company’s horizons and it has now set up in Bendigo.

The move was made through the 2014 acquisition of existing operation Davies Electrical Motor Specialists and David said his Bendigo branch will continue trading under that name.

He said even with the expansion Echuca Electric Motor Rewinds has endeavoured to keep the rewinding practice as a key part of its service, with the new site providing a specialist facility for future work.

It also features a showroom for its product range.
