Echuca RSL gets some cash in account

August 10, 2017

Federal Member for Murray Damian Drum (centre) meets Echuca RSL sub-branch's Cliff Spiers and Fred Clark after announcing funding to support its day-to-day operations.

ECHUCA’s veterans support centre has received a boost thanks to the Federal Government.

Canberra has kicked in several thousand dollars to help the centre with its operations across the next 12 months.

Echuca RSL sub-branch secretary Peter Martin said the money would go towards daily necessities including computers, printers, ink and fuel.

‘‘We’re all volunteers, so it helps with the day-to-day running of the centre. It keeps us off the streets,’’ he said.

‘‘We try to keep the morale up around here by having barbecues with staff on Fridays, and that sort of thing.

‘‘We’ve been here since 2004 and, with technology constantly changing, it’s more expensive to run things.’’

The Echuca-Moama Veterans Support Centre provides free assistance, advice and referrals to the ex-service community.

■Echuca RSL is at 165-173 Annesley St at the rear of the Workers and Services Club. Phone 5482 2000 for more information.
