Echuca-Moama will not go silently into 2018 with an event planned on New Year’s Eve expected to bring the twin towns to life.

ECHUCA’S first New Year’s Eve celebration is a go.

At a meeting on Tuesday night 14 people came together to brainstorm for the event which aims to be community driven.

Organiser Kristen Munro said they have all but confirmed the venue.

‘‘We aim to have it at the Aquatic Reserve,’’ she said.

‘‘All things are planning ahead and a lot of people had great ideas.

‘‘We had a few young kids provide some ideas on what they would like to see as well, which was great.’’

Ms Munro said they are now focusing on getting community groups on board.

‘‘We are looking to get service clubs, sporting clubs or school groups who want to man a BBQ and make some funds for their group,’’ she said.

‘‘Local businesses have also jumped on board to support the event which include the Motels Association and Echuca Moama Tourism.’’

Although the NYE event will be a completely community run event Ms Munro said some councillors came along in support.

‘‘It is nice to see some councillors come along and have a listen to our ideas and show their support,’’ she said.

‘‘It is never too late to have your say so if people have any ideas we are always willing to listen.’’

The event will feature two fireworks displays and plenty of family entertainment.
