Dave’s back and he is still cooking up a storm

DAVE Hollamby is back.

The Cock ‘n’ Bull chef won the fourth (and first and second) annual Great Taste of Echuca-Moama on Saturday.

And it all came down to beetroot.

‘‘I plated up a little beetroot salad,’’ Dave said.

‘‘It could be called beetroot and friend as it included smoked trout, Meredith Dairy goats fetta and some local blood oranges.

‘‘It was a real team effort and a special mention goes to my wife Summar and nine-year-old daughter Anais who slaved away on the Saturday.

‘‘They collected leaves and herb clippings to make my dish look so special.’’

Dave came up against Phil Edwards (The Sweet Meadow), Dave Palmer (Junction), Dave Bowman (The Restaurant Echuca) and Nathaniel Place (Echuca Workers and Services Club) and said he was ‘‘thrilled’’ Phil was recognised on the night.

MasterChef Australia 2013 winner Emma Dean made Phil her choice on the night.

‘‘He put in a massive effort last year so I was glad this year he came away with an award on the night,’’ he said.

‘‘A congratulations needs to go out to all the organisers and front of house staff.

‘‘As always the Moama Bowling Club were great hosts and Dave Palmer and the guys from Junction were great, anything we needed they were happy to help.

‘‘The night was great - I am still recovering.’’

Dave said the hardest challenge on the night was being out of his own kitchen.

‘‘But the people who jump up and help you out are fantastic,’’ he said.

‘‘I am always up for the challenge and was pretty thrilled to come away with the win.’’

The money is still being tallied by Blue Ribbon Foundation with the proceeds going to the Echuca Regional Health emergency department.
