HEALTH in the Campaspe region has received a booster shot with the announcement of a $150,000 funding injection to the Heart for Victoria initiative.
The Victorian Government announced the decision at the Loddon Campaspe Regional Partnership Assembly in Bendigo recently.
And with new statistics highlighting the area’s physical and mental health problems, it couldn’t come soon enough.
Of particular concern was adult obesity, which at 23.4 per cent was almost 6 per cent higher than the state’s average of 17.4 per cent.
The $150,000 grant will be used to promote the benefits of regular exercise, as well as to support a business case to accelerate and strengthen existing initiatives.
Minister for Regional Development, Jaala Pulford, said: “There is nothing more important to Victorians than our health. Our Loddon Campaspe Regional Partnership told us that this was an absolute priority – we’ve listened and look forward to the results.”
Funding for the initiative comes from the Victorian 2017/18 budget allocation of $29 million to support Regional Partnership priorities across Victoria.
