THE Independent Commission Against Corruption has not been able to confirm or deny it is investigating the embattled Murray Shire.
The Riverine Herald made the enquiry on Friday last week after a former councillor said the Office of Local Government had handed the public inquiry to ICAC.
‘‘Thank you for your enquiry, however, the Commission cannot confirm or deny if it has received information or referrals, is making enquiries or undertaking investigations,’’ a spokesperson from ICAC said.
The then Minister for Local Government Paul Toole announced a formal public enquiry into Murray Shire on January 15 last year.
The report revealed a dysfunctional council where councillors were seemingly at war with each other and general manager Margot Stork.
The Office of Local Government refused to comment on the investigation.
