OVERTAKING lanes will be added to the Northern Highway between Echuca and Rochester.
Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp announced on Wednesday the $5.8 million investment, which will deliver two new overtaking lanes around eight kilometres south of Echuca and three kilometres north of Rochester.
“Overtaking between Echuca and Rochester on the Northern Hwy can be difficult – our upgrades will make it easier and safer,’’ Mr Gepp said.
“With passenger, heavy vehicles and farming machinery all using this stretch of road, we are opening up traffic by adding more lanes.
“We’re upgrading roads across Victoria to get people home safer and sooner, wherever they live.’’
The new lanes will separate passenger and freight vehicles, providing safer overtaking opportunities, improving traffic flow and reducing travel times.
There have been nine crashes on this section of the Northern Hwy in the past five years, including two as a result of overtaking.
Works on the project will start in mid-2018.
