A MAN charged over the brazen theft of a car from an Echuca fuel station has been remanded in custody for another month.

Darren Ray Newton, 30, appeared in custody at Echuca Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with theft of a motor vehicle, various dishonesty, drug and weapons offences and handling stolen goods.

The Huntly man was further remanded in custody to appear on October 11.

A man was filling his Ford Falcon sedan at a United Petroleum fuel pump on the Northern Hwy about 12.15am on July 3 before he went inside to pay, leaving the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition.

While he was inside, a passenger in a Landcruiser — also being refuelled — got out, jumped in the sedan and drove off.

Later that day, Campaspe detectives, helped by Bendigo-based Central Victoria Response Unit police, arrested Newton.

Police found the stolen vehicle in Flora Hill.
