A MAN who didn’t know he wasn’t licensed has been fined $700.

Brenton Northausen appeared in Echuca Magistrates Court on Tuesday to plead guilty to unlicensed driving and a breach of a community corrections order.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Rachael Hitchins said the accused was observed driving on Kerr Rd, Stanhope on May 5.

‘‘The informant was on foot and unable to intercept the accused but identified him,’’ she said. ‘‘A VicRoads check confirmed he was an unlicensed driver.

‘‘On May 11 he was interviewed by police and did not have a lawful excuse.’’

Magistrate Michael King said he was giving Northausen another chance.

‘‘I am cancelling your CCO and issuing a new order for 12 months,’’ he said. ‘‘You will complete 139 hours of community work.’’

He was also ordered to pay $70.50 in statutory costs.
