CHILDREN are getting a good start when it comes to swimming, thanks to Goodstart Early Learning Echuca.

Sharee Sinclair from Goodstart said drowning became the leading cause of accidental death in Australia for children under five.

‘‘We at Goodstart decided that it’s extremely important that our kindergarten children were offered swimming lessons as part of their program as we are surrounded by the Murray, Campaspe and Goulburn Rivers,’’ she said.

Goodstart is believed to be the only kindergarten service to offer the program and it plans to continue with 2018 enrolled kindergarten children.

‘‘This year’s children have had the opportunity to learn valuable water skills for life,’’ Sharee said.

‘‘Water safety is an essential part of early education and it has been very rewarding to see the children having fun whilst building confidence in the water.

‘‘Our swimming lessons ran for two days a week for four weeks in total with some families considering the opportunity of continuing lessons privately.’’
