Todd Murphy bowls in the under 17s national championships

MOAMA’S Todd Murphy has put his batting talent on display for the national audience, dominating cricket’s under 17 National Championships with three half centuries.

But his Victorian Country team’s chances of progressing further through the championships were cruelled by the Brisbane weather; after posting a whopping 7/302 for Cricket Australia XI to chase, rain meant the entire afternoon session was cancelled, the higher-ranked CA XI progressing to the semi-finals.

The Country side had Murphy largely to thank for the strong total, the 16-year-old having blasted 82 runs off 62 balls after coming to the crease at 3/18.

It was his third 50 of the tournament, having made 63 against the Northen Territory and 52 against Vic Metro.

And it wasn’t just with the bat where he made an impact, having picked up nine wickets in five games at a handy average of 19.3.

Vic Country will play Vic Metro today before another practice game tomorrow to wrap up the tournament.

Murphy has made the move from Moama to Sandhurst for the coming cricket season.
