RECOGNITION for hard work is always appreciated but not often given.
In Peter Jackson’s case though, his own deserved recognition came last Wednesday night for his years of service to the Echuca Basketball Association.
“It’s nice, it just means I’m able to be recognised for years of experience and impact on others”, Jackson said.
Jackson boasted more than 30 years of basketball experience before moving to Echuca from Melbourne seven years ago.
“When I came here it was almost like a case of ask and you shall receive as I was the one who approached the Echuca Basketball Association for a position,’’ he said.
‘‘Initially I was just a referee but about three or four years ago I became joint referee co-ordinator and then two years ago I stepped up to be the full time co-ordinator.”
Jackson felt his experience could be put to good use here in Echuca.
And to good use it went, young Echuca referee Jordan Hutton full of praise for the administrator.
‘‘(He’s) a bloke you want to be around. Everything’s organised because of him and he’s just a happy, friendly bloke,” he said.
Although he has relinquished his role as the referee co-ordinator, Jackson hoped to now coach the association’s referees as he thinks the new position would suit him better considering his retirement status.
