POLICE are warning people to be on the look out for a telephone scam that is targeting people in the Campaspe Shire.

POLICE are warning people to be on the look out for a telephone scam that is targeting people in the Campaspe Shire.

Constable Scott Newton of the Echuca Police said they have received several calls reporting the scam.

‘‘It is important to bring this to people attention that the phone call is false and not to engage with the people,’’ he said.

‘‘They say they are from the Australian Taxation Office and that you owe money.

‘‘They also say that if you don’t deposit money into a bank account there will be arrest warrants in place.

‘‘This is completely false and not the way it works.’’

Constable Newton said the same scam went around last year.

‘‘It is the same type of scam and it is normally from an Australian number with an Asian voice,’’ he said.

‘‘If you receive this call the best thing to do is report it to the Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network and not to the police.’’
