CONSTRUCTION has started to upgrade the intersection of Murray Valley Hwy and Warren St, as part of stage one of the $280 million Echuca-Moama bridge project.

VicRoads project director Nigel Powers said construction of a roundabout at the intersection would boost safety and traffic flow for drivers by removing the dangerous ‘Y’ layout.

‘‘This intersection will help connect the north of Victoria with regional centres including Echuca, Kyabram, Rochester, Moama and Shepparton,’’ Mr Powers said.

‘‘To enable these works, the speed limit near the intersection will be reduced to 40km/h between 6am-6pm Monday to Friday, and 60km/h outside these times.

‘‘Please observe the changed traffic conditions, including work zone speed limits for your own safety, the safety of other motorists and the safety of our workers.’’

More than 8000 vehicles pass through this intersection on the Murray Valley Hwy each day, including hundreds of trucks and heavy vehicles.

In July, an Echuca based civil construction company RE Civil Pty Ltd, was awarded the contract to build the new roundabout.

VicRoads would like to thank the community for their patience while these important works are underway.

The roundabout works are set to be complete by mid-2018.
