GMS Plumbing becomes Laser Plumbing Group

November 05, 2017

IT HAS a new name but it’s still the same business we all know.

From the days of GMS Plumbing, an invitation to join the Laser Plumbing Group was too good to pass up for Geoff and Mel Slattery.

Together they started GMS Plumbing in 2001 and have grown from a ‘‘one man in a van’’ to employing nine local people.

Two years ago, they were approached by the Laser Plumbing Group to become a franchise.

But they are still the same plumbing business.

The same owners and same energetic staff giving the same friendly, reliable and quality service that GMS Plumbing was renowned for throughout the past 16 years.

‘‘It took us a while to agree to join, we didn’t want to lose our ‘local’ status,’’ Geoff said.

‘‘But at the same time, we also looked into if the group would be a good fit for us and us a good fit for them.’’

They officially became the Laser Group on September 1.

Being part of a multinational group gives them a huge network of support from other members as well as access to innovative business systems all while still operating the original family business as it was.

‘‘It really gave us the opportunity to network with about 100 other franchises, while still being our own entity,’’ Mel said.

‘‘We still maintain the plumbing knowledge, skills and customer service that our clients know and love.’’

They understand the importance of tourism to the twin towns and have been a member of Echuca Moama Tourism since they first started the business.

‘‘Everyone benefits from tourism and all the other industries in Echuca Moama no matter how big or small,’’ Geoff said.

As Laser, they have specialised expertise and are licensed in all commercial, industrial and domestic fields.

‘‘We stay up-to-date in our training, as well as keeping up-to-date in the technology advances and equipment,’’ Geoff said.

‘‘We have invested in a drain camera and an acoustic leak detection device, both of which mean there is less mess and less costs to the client.

‘‘Communicating using the latest technologies and systems to ensure quick response times.’’

In reality, the only thing that has changed is the new signage on the vans and new uniforms.

The business is situated at 9 Mundarra Rd, Echuca.
