MORE than $42,000 was raised at this year’s Echuca-Moama Relay for Life.

Last month’s event saw 192 participants in 15 teams take part in an 18-hour relay at Moama Recreation Reserve to raise funds for the Cancer Council.

Relay For Life community liaison Ayden Shaw said the event was fantastic, with two teams — Happy Hour and Family Ties — who announced this year they each had raised more than $100,000 in 10 years.

‘‘There was a great vibe at the event with particular highlights being the smoking ceremony conducted by Uncle Ricky, Ben Pettengill’s speech on resilience and determination and the amazing relay which involved lots of activities,’’ he said.

‘‘We generated some great momentum for next year, which will be our 15th year for the Echuca-Moama Relay For Life and we hope it will be the biggest yet.

‘‘The community spirit and support was amazing as always and we want to thank every person or business, no matter how big or small their contribution, who got involved in our event.

‘‘It’s always an emotional weekend but it really was great and uplifting.’’
