TONGALA reeled off a third straight win in Saturday’s Goulburn Murray Cricket A grade action, keeping Bamawm-Lockington United winless for the season.
United looked in a strong position after a solid batting performance, posting 6/166 from its 45 overs.
Skipper Josh Cairns made 39 and Greg Pearse stepped up with another half-century (55) helping to build the total.
Ryley Cowley was the best of the Tongala bowlers, with 3/34 from his nine overs.
Tonny lost Blake Campbell (7) and Jamie Garde (7) cheaply, but had a string of middle-order batsmen step up.
Alex Williams (31), John Copeland (20), Jayden Tucker (33) and Joel Regan (21) all played well but left the tail a job to do at 7/154.
But Bailey Waasdorp, in his first A grade game for the season, cracked two fours in his quick 11 not out, Tongala winning with three balls to spare.
BLU would be disappointed with its bowling discipline, with 21 wides a huge factor in helping its opponent across the line.
■COOMA knocked off grand finalist Kyabram Fire Brigade by five wickets.
After bowling KFB out for 138, Cooma’s batsmen were always in control of the chase, Brayden Stone (42*) and Stephen Barrett (35) helping to guide the side across the finish line with four overs to spare.
■ROCHESTER United eased to a fifth straight win to start the new season against Stanhope.
Led by captain Tim Bubb’s 58 United set a strong target of 4/203, and bowled the opposition out for 117 in 42.4 overs.
