THE CFA is asking Campaspe Shire residents to be prepared when burning off.
Fire brigades have been busy with burn offs getting out of control and Northern Campaspe CFA group officer Thomas Harry is asking people to be well equipped.
‘‘We don’t want people to stop burning off, we want them to clean up and do the right thing, but we just need them to be prepared,’’ he said.
‘‘There have been a fair few burn offs that have got away and although the volunteers love doing it people need to be more prepared.
‘‘Our work load is going to be much bigger if people don’t do the right thing.’’
Mr Harry said there were two things people needed to do when burning off.
‘‘People need to make sure they have a good amount of water on hand,’’ he said.
‘‘And fire breaks need to be in place where they can to ensure the burn off is under control.’’
The warning comes after about 13 hectares of grassland was destroyed after an out of control burn-off at Lockington on Sunday.
Fire restrictions come into place in the next few weeks.
