IF YOU are up for a challenge and you love the river, why not jump in a canoe or kayak or even a paddleboard and join the Massive Murray Paddle?

IF YOU are up for a challenge and you love the river, why not jump in a canoe or kayak or even a paddleboard and join the Massive Murray Paddle?

Running from November 20-24 and covering 404km, the paddle is certainly not for the fainthearted but it can be covered as a whole, in a leg, in a team or individually.

While there is no denying the event is physically challenging, the atmosphere and emphasis is still on fun and teams take pride in making sure they fit into the event with quirky names, logos and uniforms — all an essential part of the event.

Formerly known as the Red Cross Murray River Marathon, the paddle has been running for many years and allows participants to raise money for their favourite charity.

The paddle is open to individual paddlers who can enter as serious racers or recreational paddlers or teams.

Categories include school team relays, the K4 challenge or the homemade/DIY challenge.

Set your own goals and paddle for one day, two days or the entire five days or aim to cover 50km, 100km, 200km or the full distance.

People take on the paddle for many different reasons but all get to enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of the river.
