ECHUCA White survived a close encounter against Rich River in Friday’s round of midweek pennant.
At the end of the day’s play, the Echuca side held on to win by a single shot.
Jean Fairchild and her team of Norma Hall, Lyn Snell and Leica Roney continued their good form to win by 13 shots.
Echuca Blue competed against Deniliquin and once again had a close overall match. In the end Deniliquin won by 13 shots.
Sandra Glasser, Helen Pitts, Marie Malone and Ros Neil won their game 24-23.
Division three had a strong 19-shot win against Rich River. The team skipped by Bernie Johns won its game by 10 shots, and Linda Ormando and her team won by nine shots.
Four of the five divisions had perfect results in Saturday’s round of weekend pennant, with all rinks winning their games.
Division one travelled to Deniliquin RSL and recorded a strong 41-shot win. Greg Page and his team of John Dinsdale, Stan Glasser and Brent Reiner combined well to win by 22 shots.
Division two hosted Tongala and won by 53 shots. Jim Thomas, John O’Brien, Tony Deenen and Carly Taylor finished the day with a 26-shot win.
Division three played Deniliquin RSL at home, with all three rinks scoring wins in a 22-shot victory.
Division four also played Tongala and recorded some big wins, eventually winning by 55 shots.
Division five also played Deniliquin RSL and battled hard but could not record a rink win.
The post-sectional rounds of the men’s State Pairs were played at Rich River on Sunday.
In the morning games, Philip Thorn and Wayne Brooks defeated Moama’s Kevin Brennan and Graeme O’Brien, while the Deniliquin pair of Shane Laing and Lindsay Franklin defeated Barry Brennan and Glenn Dorward.
In the afternoon semi-finals, the two Echuca sides met and the Thorn-Brooks combination held on to win a close match against Geoff Beattie and Steve Cunnington.
In the other semi-final, the Laing-Franklin combination from Deniliquin defeated Rochester’s father and son team of David and Cameron Keenan.
The final will now see the Echuca team of Philip Thorn and Wayne Brooks compete against the Deniliquin pair of Shane Laing and Lindsay Franklin. This will be played on a date yet to be confirmed.

THE quarter and semi-finals of the CVBD Men’s State Pairs were played at Rich River on Sunday, again in ideal conditions.
Results:Quarter-finals: Lindsay Franklin/Shane Laing d Glen Dorward/Barry Brennan, Wayne Brooks/Phillip Thorn d Graham O‘Brien/Kevin Brennan.
Semi-finals: Wayne Brooks/Phillip Thorn d Steve Cunnington/Geoff Beattie, Lindsay Franklin/Shane Lang d Cameron and David Keenan.
The final will be played on Sunday, November 26.
LAST Tuesday the women retired to the club house and champers to celebrate the Melbourne Cup day at leisure. No winners but a lot of fun.
In midweek pennant competition the women lost to Elmore 54-81. (Annette Brereton, Betty Mustey, Annie Haines, Kath Palmer (s) lost to Ann Williams 20-30; Lesla Maslen, Russell Shawcross, Lois Chugg, Phylis MacFarlane (s) l.t. Barbara Holmberg 15-23; Ann Lowrie, Lorraine Appleby, Margaret Davis, Pauline Humbert (s) l.t. Evelyn Locke 19-28). The team has dropped out of the top four to fifth position.
The results of the CVBD weekend pennant competition showed a loss and a win for the club.
Division two was confronted by the strong Moama unit and failed to win a rink in the 44-82 shock loss. (Ken Main, David Lupton, Don Isgro, Russell Shawcross (s) l.t. R Young 13-27; Frank Chugg, Geoff Shawcross, Ray Hanson, Graham Turner (s) l.t. B Trengrove 17-23; Roly Head, Tom Davis, Alan Kauffman, Jim Harris (s) l.t. L Saunderson 14-32). The team is relegated to sixth position on the ladder.
On the back green, division four battled against the undefeated top side Rich River.
After a dour struggle for most of the day it came down to the last rink.
The Phil Collins rink withstood some real pressure from the strong Barry Kelly four to gradually win the game 28-20 and carry the club to victory. On the second last end Collins drew the ‘‘bowl-of-the-day’’ to win the end after being five shots down at the head, then trailed the jack for two shots on the final end.
The overall result was Lockington 72, Rich River 68. (Don Smith, Graeme Hyden, Les Brereton, Phil Collins (s) defeated B Kelly 28-20; Kalvan Stout, Phillip Cunnington, Stephen Peter, Bill Musgrove (s) l.t. M Kerr 21-24; Ken Cunnington, Chris Stewart, Russell Holman, Neil Haines (s) l.t. J Exton 23-24). This was the Haines’ rink’s second one-shot loss in as many weeks.
The club had a small roll-up for the Friday night practice and meal of pizzas and hot chips. In the lucky members draw no. 52 - Bill Musgrove was not in attendance.

With the Victorian Open Bowls Championship commencing in the Shepparton region this coming Saturday, November 18, all weekend pennant is cancelled and will resume on Saturday, November 25.
For people interested, there will be several CVBD bowlers in action during the championships.
In the State Singles championship sectional play on Saturday, Phillip Thorn is at Kyabram, Steve Cunnington at Wunghu, Troy Mansbridge at Stanhope, Rob Wastell at Shepparton Park, Trevor Nagorcka at Dookie, Rod Werner plus several local stars at different locations.
The women will be represented by Sandra Connolly, Marilyn Stephenson, Melissa Roberts, Kerryn Evans, Joan Moss, Leica Roney, Kath Wastell and Mia Young.
The State Singles is played on the Saturday followed by the State Pairs on Sunday and the State Triples on Monday.
The State Mixed Pairs will be played on Tuesday. Full draws for all events can be seen on the BowlsVic website. Good luck to all bowlers competing.
Midweek pennant saw division two beat Rich River 71-53 at Mathoura.
Weekend pennant saw division one beat Rochester 74-68 at Mathoura.
Division two lost to Rochester 71-76 away from home, and division four beat Rochester 86-59 at Mathoura.
There will not be any weekend pennant played this Saturday due to the Victorian Open.

We had 14 teams enter and they came from Echuca, Rich River, Deni RSL, Tongala & Mathoura.
Several new Mathoura bowlers took part, Neil Dovaston, Maryanne Vanzupton and Lee Clear, and did well in their first real tournament.
After the completion of the three games we had three three-game winners, the points were then totalled to come up with a winner and runner-up.
Winners with 80 points were D and B Murray, runners-up with 79 points were Les Bates and Maryanne Vanzupton.
Missing out were R Shea and L Vallance with 76 points, while the lucky card draw was won by K. Jones and A. Prime.
