MATHOURA Gun Club has completed its Shoots Zone Championship.

With October providing for perfect shooting weather, the club took to the tarps for a night shoot four weeks ago.

A number of competitors from across multiple clubs made the trip to compete for the Victorian North East Zone Night Single Barrel Championship.

The event began with a ten target double barrel cash divide.

Despite the perfect weather conditions, no shooter was able to put together a perfect score in the opening round of the event.

Instead, five shooters were able to put together eight out of 10 rounds with Chris Thompson, Mick Rowan, Tom McCluskey, Rhys Glenn and Mick Keirl all taking a share of the first round’s money.

The second round of the competition saw a fifteen target single barrel event contested.

Again no members were able to successfully complete a perfect score, however four members of the Mathoura club were able to lock down a score of 11 out of 15.

Mick Keirl, Peter McCluskey, John Berryman, and Jayme Lewis were all able to take a section of the kitty for their scores.

The closing event for the shoot was the 25 target single barrel championship.

In this event, one man stood alone at the top of the event, with Deniliquin member Mick Rowan shooting 21 targets of 25.

This result not only gave him this event, but the overall win in AA/A grade.

Peter McCluskey shot a 19/25, a score that earned him the overall win in C grade.

Due to timing commitments, no B grade shooters took part in the event, leaving the B grade championship unclaimed.
