PLAYING in the rain at times, the Rich River golf croquet pennant team lost to Numurkah Blue last week, seven games and 70 hoops to five games and 63 hoops.

Russell Smyth played well, winning three of his four games and losing the fourth 6-7.

Due to the poor weather only two matches were completed in the GVCA round which has seen Rich River slip to fourth place on the ladder with one round to go.

Association croquet saw section one play Numurkah and lose 1-2. Despite this loss, it is still in a position to make the finals.

Section two won against Mooroopna Gold, two games 66 hoops to one game 45 hoops. Marjorie and Ian Grant both won their singles.

Club play was cancelled on Thursday last week, the inclement weather obviously deterring players.

On Tuesday, we had 16 members playing singles. The day’s winner was Russell Smyth, who took home a Café 3564 coffee and cake voucher.

Helen Brierley was runner-up and Fiona Larcombe and Ruth Mole came a very close third and fourth.

This weekend will be our last Sunday afternoon club play. It is the last chance for any interested parties of any age to join club members, no charge.

Start time is 12.30pm, wear flat soled shoes and a sun hat. The courts are behind the bowling greens at Rich River Golf Club Resort.
