Meditating to raise money

November 28, 2017

A GROUP of local women will journey to Siem Reap next year to volunteer and raise money to help the poor.

Ali Connelly, Merryn Anderson and Sue Healy are planning the week-long Cambodia Crew trip to run in conjunction with International Yoga Day on June 21, 2018.

‘‘We propose to spend the week practising yoga and meditation, volunteering in local organisations and exploring the delights of Siem Reap,’’ Ms Connelly said.

With decades of war and internal conflict leaving Cambodia one of the world’s poorest countries, Ms Connelly said the trip would raise money for Touch a Life which provided life-saving projects and programs that promote health and education.

‘‘Our prior visits to Siem Reap, we have assisted in the classroom at local schools,’’ Ms Connelly said.

‘‘Our hope is to raise enough money to be able to provide the school with a computer to help the children in their learning endeavours.’’

■A mini yoga retreat will be held on Saturday, December 9, at 1pm at Perricoota Vines in Moama.

Tickets cost $100 and include yoga, flower crown making, crystal singing bowl meditation and a glass of wine.

All money raised will be donated to communities living in poverty in Cambodia.
