It’d be cool if we had a hydro pool

TWO months ago, Moama’s Wendy Nikolovski died from brain cancer after a seven-year battle.

Now her daughter, Ebony Nikolovski, is holding a fundraiser in memory of her mother.

Wendy spent years fighting breast, bone and liver cancer and her last wish was for a hydrotherapy pool to be established at Echuca to help those suffering and relieve pressure from Bendigo hydrotherapy services.

While a feasibility study into a hydrotherapy pool is being carried out, the money Ebony is raising at her workplace will go towards new cancer treatment facilities in Echuca.

‘‘I want to do anything I can to help other cancer patients after seeing what my mother went through,’’ she said.

With fundraising starting on September 30 at BWS Moama, Ebony has raised almost $2000 and hopes to reach $5000 by the end of January.

As well as Moama, BWS stores in Kangaroo Flat, Kennington and Bendigo are holding Pink Fun Fridays throughout summer where locals can taste a variety of drinks while having the opportunity to donate.

On Friday, they will host a special Pink Fun Friday complete with pink t-shirts decorated with the tag line ‘Do it for Wendy’ and pink decorations.

Each store will be competing to see who can raise the most money, so Ebony is encouraging residents to visit their local BWS to enjoy the tastings and donate.

‘‘Mum would be so proud of how the community is rallying together to support the further development of a much-needed cancer centre in Echuca,’’ she said.

‘‘New cancer treatment facilities will eliminate the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment.’’

Ebony has also been busy raising money for the cause at the Speed Shear and Mathoura Country Kids Festival.

‘‘I am grateful for all the support I’ve received and encourage locals to get involved by donating at the store or Bendigo Bank,’’ she said.

‘‘I think my mum would be very proud and she’d be honoured to know that my workplace and the whole community are coming together to support our efforts.

‘‘My mum, despite everything she was going through, always managed to have a smile on her face and she will always will be the greatest inspiration. Seeing her strength through all of it gives me hope.’’

You can visit Wendy’s Wish Facebook page or make a donation at the stores or at Bendigo Bank, BSB 633000, account number 161277272.
