EACH Christmas, the Country Women’s Association (CWA) prepare festive food for outreach programs.
This year, CWA member Maureen Vosper (pictured) is baking up a storm.
She has made gingernut and shortbread biscuits as well as delicious Christmas cake.
It all comes about as the CWA and Coles supermarkets teamed up with donations of ingredients.
Typically, members don’t usually give away their tricks of the trade to a good biscuit or cake, but Maureen was different.
‘‘We have to make sure the cake takes it’s whole three hours at a low temperature,’’ she said.
‘‘I have used the same recipe for years, it’s the only one I trust.’’
She said she even made the Christmas cakes for her children’s weddings.
The gingernut biscuits were made by her grandson and the shortbread were both out of Cooking the Australian Way — one of her favourite cookbooks.
Maureen certainly knows her stuff.
She has won Best in State for her cream puffs.
Her trick? Beating the choux pastry thoroughly so there are no air bubbles.
‘‘... and you can have them as savoury or sweet, it’s really yummy,’’ she declared.
