A CAMPAIGN to round up all those dust-covered cans of Australia’s unwanted paint comes to Echuca tomorrow.
Households and tradies can leave up to 100 litres of unwanted paint each for free at a special collection event that will be set up in the car park at Bunnings Echuca.
It’s all part of a national initiative to responsibly dispose of the estimated nine million kilograms of paint that is sold, but left over, every year. Much of it currently finds its way into landfill.
Paintback is challenging the Echuca community to bring back 10 tonnes of unwanted paint at its pop-up event this Saturday. Paintback chief executive Karen Gomez said this is a one-day event to make sure unwanted paint does not end up where it is unwanted.
Ms Gomez said her group’s goal was to collect and treat 45 million kilograms of unwanted paint and packaging by 2021 – it has managed to collect more than five million kilograms since launching in 2016.
“The collection point will be in the car park; you just need to drive up and drop off your unwanted paint.” Ms Gomez said.
