ECHUCA-Moama Theatre Company’s production of The Phantom of the Opera is set to become a major drawcard for the region; attracting a talent pool from across north central Victoria.
The stellar cast of 47, announced last night, are from as far as Bendigo, Shepparton, Kialla, Kyabram, Tongala, Katandra, Katunga and Gunbower as well as Echuca-Moama.
Co-directors John Wright and Mark Thomson said they were delighted with the final cast, including each character, ensemble and dance member.
‘‘A stunning measure of the fabulous quality of auditionees is the incredibly talented participants who were not cast even though they gave excellent audition performances,’’ Mr Wright said.
‘‘Selection was necessarily not based on just the best voice or acting performance only, but included best possible age, height, character fit to collectively ensure the best possible Phantom cast character and performance mix.
‘‘Audiences are in for an incredible Phantom experience from this truly regional and stellar cast.’’
Kialla’s Leigh Hindle heads the cast as the Phantom, while his muse is Echuca’s Sophie Miller who will play Christine Daaé.
Moama’s Luke Westley stars as Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny, and Tamara Cadd will play Carlotta Giudicelli.
Kialla’s Sean O’Brien will play Ubaldo Piangi, Echuca’s Gerard Oman is Monsieur Richard Firmin and Kyabram’s Connor Deakin is Monsieur Gilles André.
Moama’s Ivy Wise will play Madame Giry, Kyabram’s Charlotte Goode is Meg Giry and Honni Goulding is Madame Reyer.
They will be supported by 24 members in the ensemble and 13 in the ballet chorus.
Rehearsals start next week before the show takes to the stage at the Paramount Theatre from May 25 to June 9, 2018.
The directors said they were now looking forward to creating a truly regional engagement in what would be a ‘‘very special, inclusive and iconic musical event’’.
