Weekend sport a washout

THE weekend’s wild weather meant Saturday’s sporting action was all called off.

THE weekend’s wild weather meant Saturday’s sporting action was all called off.

Goulburn Murray Cricket made the early call to cancel Friday night’s junior action, as well as Saturday’s seniors, the decision announced on the association’s Facebook page at 3pm Friday.

And the Campaspe Valley Bowls Division followed suit, with match committee chairman Joe Murphy announcing Saturday morning all weekend pennant would be cancelled after more than 100mm of rain overnight.

The cricket pitch at Victoria Park had the covers on but even they were coated in water, while the rain also pooled in the outfield.

And the City of Echuca Bowls Club looked far more like a swimming pool, with the entirety of the greens filled with rain.

With Saturday’s cricket play scheduled as the first day of two-day play, the fixtures will become one-dayers to be played next Saturday.

It changes the circumstances surrounding Moama’s top of the table clash with Rochester United, with Moama now needing to bat more urgently against United’s suffocating bowling line-up.

And all CVBD bowls games were called washouts, every side pocketing half of the 16 points on offer each weekend.
