THE Riverboats Music Festival secured Gold in the Events and Festivals category at the 2017 RACV Victorian Tourism Award.
Widely considered the Murray River’s premiere contemporary music event, Riverboats topped seven high-calibre events and festivals to win the category at a ceremony in the Palladium Room at Crown Casino.
The festival has previously played host to the likes of Paul Kelly, Sarah Blasko, You Am I, Missy Higgins and Dan Sultan.
Festival director David Frazer said ‘‘we were absolutely thrilled and a little stunned to receive such a prestigious statewide award, particularly given the outstanding calibre of entrants’’.
‘‘To receive such positive industry recognition for Riverboats says a lot about how far the festival has come in the past seven years.’’
Echuca was well represented in the awards, with the Port of Echuca Discovery Centre and Murray River Paddlesteamers both winning silver in the cultural tourism and unique accommodation categories respectively.
Echuca-Moama tourism Chief Executive Kathryn Mackenzie said it was great to not only see Echuca shine, but the whole Murray region.
‘‘It just shows that people come to the region to enjoy a weekend off or for a holiday,’’ she said.
The Riverboats festival is back on again from February 16-18. Only a small number of single Friday and Sunday tickets are available.
