A NEW school year often means new uniforms. But for some residents in our community, this basic need is often an expense they can barely afford.

Sheridan Clark from Crossenvale Community House has begun Campaspe School Uniform Drive to ease the burden of the huge costs — and she needs your help.

The Uniform Drive aims to collect any school uniforms, which are still in a good condition, from across the Echuca/Moama and surrounding areas and donate them to families in need.

‘‘I started the drive because I use to work for an organisation and supported many young parents who found it hard buying uniforms,’’ she said.

‘‘I thought ‘hey, why not?’.

‘‘I’m a huge believer of the ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ theory and I know this community is willing to lend a hand if asked.’’

After posting on the Echuca ‘Buy Swap Sell’ Facebook page and getting a huge response of support and people wanting to donate, the opportunity arose for Sheridan’s idea to flourish.

With students now leaving school and not needing uniforms, the Drive is launching at a perfect time to allow families to give them to a good cause.

While the initiative is still in its early days, Sheridan is happy to pick up any donations and plans to distribute uniforms in the New Year.

The current drop off points are Crossenvale Community House, Echuca Neighbourhood House and Lockington Business Centre with hopes other neighbourhood houses and organisations get on board.

All items donated will be posted on the Campaspe School Uniform Drive Facebook page and enquiries can be messaged to this page or contact CCH on 5480 3583 or you can email [email protected]
