One man died at an industrial accident in Leitchville on Wednesday.

A KIALLA man is dead and another has been seriously injured after an industrial accident in Leitchville on Wednesday.

The 59-year-old Kialla man died at the scene and a 54-year-old Cobram man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The men were part of a contract crew that had been working on the demolition of the defunct Murray Goulburn facility in the town. It is believed that machinery fell on two men at the site.

Acting Sergeant Andrew Neil from Cohuna police said there were not any witnesses to the actual accident but other workers who had been on the site were being looked after.

‘‘It is a really hard time for them right now and we are doing everything we can to help those men,’’ Sgt. Neil said.

‘‘There are no other details at the moment and while we still aren’t sure how the accident occurred the investigation is ongoing.’’

WorkSafe investigators and the coroner were called to the scene.

The site has been closed and all work suspended until further notice.

WorkSafe has taken over the inquiry into the accident.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
