PEOPLE are encouraged to attend a fundraising this month to support the Peter Geddes Short Stay Unit at Echuca hospital.

Hosted by Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation Echuca branch and XLI Club, the lunch will be held at Moama’s Border Inn on January 10.

Echuca Regional Health executive assistant and volunteer co-ordinator Shari Butcher said in the past the lunch had attracted about 100 people and last year raised about $2000 for the Blue Ribbon Echuca branch.

‘‘We are hoping to be able to increase this for 2018,’’ she said.

‘‘The Blue Ribbon Foundation Echuca branch raises funds for ERH, in particular our emergency department and short stay unit, to ensure vital new equipment can be purchased to support the health needs of our community.

‘‘Community support to these events and others like the Great Taste of Echuca-Moama and the Inside Story events helps us to ensure we can continue to provide the best care possible.’’

The most recent donation from the branch to ERH was a new theatre table and equipment worth $95,000.

The lunch will include the presentation of the 2018 Frank And Carmel Eyre Award to a Victorian police officer from the region who has performed exceptional service to their community.

Guest speakers include Geoff Wilkinson — the man responsible for bringing Crime Stoppers to Australia — and four-time Olympian and five-time world champion basketballer Phil Smyth.

The lunch will be held at noon and costs $50 per person, which includes a meal and welcome drink.
