THE semi-finals and final of the Campaspe Valley Bowls Division state singles were played in ideal conditions at Moama on Saturday before a large and appreciative crowd.
The semi-final between Steve Cunnington and Troy Mansbridge was a game of two halves. Steve led 11/1 after five ends but by the end of the 13th end Troy had overhauled him and held a 14/13 lead. It would not be enough, as Steve surged again and went on to a comfortable 25/17 win.
The other semi-final was a hard-fought clash for the first 15 ends, at which point Ash Vesty had his nose just in front of Kevin Brennan, 13/11.
After which he managed to pull away to record a 25/19 victory.
The final between Mathoura’s Vesty and City of Echuca’s Cunnington displayed some great draw bowling.
Steve had a handy 12/5 lead after 12 ends, then Ash fought back to be only one shot down – 17/18 – after 23 ends.
However Steve hung on to take the title 25/22 after a very close, high-quality game.
