CHOOSING to support fundraisers at this animal rescue service is bound to get you some good CARMAR.
Campaspe and River Murray Animal Rehoming is holding a fundraising stall at Moama market on Sunday, January 14 and selling sausages at Bunnings Echuca on Saturday, January 27.
Secretary Geraldine Parker has been in animal rescue in Echuca since its inception in 2010.
She said without fundraising the organisation would not exist.
‘‘We’ve raised more than $16,000 — it’s a lot of work,’’ Geraldine said.
‘‘And that’s just from sausage sizzles, cakes stalls, Moama market and anything that arises.
‘‘Without the fundraising we couldn’t exist because when animals finally get to go into foster homes we still pay for all their food, flee treatments, worm treatments, anything they need and all the vets.
‘‘Sadly the adoption fees do not cover anywhere near what we spend.
‘‘So any donations you make, great or small, are always gratefully received.’’
President Mairin McCubbin said CARMAR had been to several aged care facilities in the area and it was sad to see most do not allow residents to bring their pets into care with then.
This is where CARMAR comes to the rescue.
‘‘We are all locals, live in the area, offer that special community knowledge,’’ she said.
‘‘We are happy to take in surrendered pets and find them an equally loving home where they will be cherished until their final days come too.’’
CARMAR operates with a small but very dedicated band of foster carers.
Mairin said the group was always looking for more carers.
‘‘We are all volunteers and we do it because we love animals, great and small,’’ she said.
CARMAR has been granted $4000 from Campaspe Shire community grants program to implement a cat de-sexing program available to low income families.
Dogs can be adopted for $350, kittens $150 and cats $100.
You can make donations to CARMAR via Bendigo Bank account BSB 633 000, ACC 159 002 864.
