Club Champion and Aggregate winner Mick Keirl with George and June Shawcross (Life members of the club and sponsors of the 2 awards). Echuca Moama Field and Game Christmas shoot.

Mick Keirl, Jordon Smith, Nicholas Cox, and Ricky Keirl (Mick and Ricky sponsoring the club's new junior and sub junior awards, with Jordon and Nicholas being the first winners). Echuca Moama Field and Game Christmas shoot.

ECHUCA Moama Field and Game held its 140-target two-person team Christmas novelty shoot on December 17.

Some 120 shooters attended, with the shooting stations set up to host two shooters at a time. Each pair shot at two to four targets at a time, testing the skill and communication between the partners.

The Moama RSL Club very generously sponsored the day, with lots of large Christmas hams on offer for the top 10 handicap scores of the day, as well as for the high gun winners, which was the pair with the best raw score of the day.

High gun went to Nick Guerra and Blake Nankervis who shot a total of 137 out of 140.

With handicaps added to the rest of the scores, the place winners were as follows:

1st: Peter Keirl and Jason Smith 137, 2nd: Ricky and Mick Keirl 136, 3rd: Grant and Daryl Scott 135, 4th: Claire Bourke and Adam Garlick 133, 5th: Kiara and Nick Dean 132, 6th: Chris Cox and Peter McKay 132, 7th: Doug Frankling and Rod Wharton 131, 8th: Adrian Orchard and Steve Norris 129, 9th: Roger Kerslake and Grant Woods 129, 10th: Tim Finnegan and Lindsay Newton 128.

Once the winners had collected their prizes, life members George and June Shawcross presented the two major awards for the year: the Club Champion and the Club Aggregate for 2017, which they have generously sponsored for many years.

The Club Champion is awarded to the shooter with the best 20 rounds for the year, which was won by a very deserving Mick Keirl, who shot 464 out of 500 targets.

He was closely followed by brother Ricky on 458 and Rod Wharton on 428.

The Club Aggregate winner is the shooter with the most targets shot with handicap for the whole year. Mick Keirl again took the honour with 733 targets for the year, five targets ahead of Ricky on 728, with Wharton the next closest on 683.

Well done to Mick on an outstanding year of shooting.

The Keirl brothers then presented the two new awards which they will be sponsoring each year to encourage the young shooters at our club.

The Sub Junior (12 to 14 years) and Junior (15 to 18 years) winners were the shooters with the best scores for the year including their handicap.

Congratulations to Nicholas Cox (Sub Junior champion) who finished the year on 362 targets, followed by Oscar Mounsey on 147, and Dekota Dean on 102.

Jordon Smith was the Junior champion with 485 targets, 23 targets ahead of Thomas Cox on 462, followed up by Kiara Dean on 423.

Nicholas and Jordon are the first to have their names on the Keirl Brothers Shield, and we look forward to watching their shooting develop in the coming years.

The club’s next shoot will be 75 targets held on Sunday, January 21, beginning at 10am.

A big thank you to Thompsons Concreting in Echuca for kindly sponsoring this day.
